Principal’s Report

Read Time: ( words)

Welcome to 2026 and another exciting year of learning at our college. It is extra special as this year the college celebrates its 40th Anniversary and a lot has been achieved during that time.

We commence this year with many new students joining our community, along with a strong increase in enrolment inquiries. Our school is growing, and this growth is a clear endorsement of the great work that continues to happen here every day. I warmly welcome all new students and families to the college and look forward to the year ahead.

I would also like to acknowledge and welcome several new staff members who have joined our college this year. We are thrilled to have you as part of our team. In addition, I am pleased to share the safe arrival of babies for Ms Louden and Ms Prosser. We congratulate them and their families on this wonderful news and wish them every happiness during this special time.

Recently, at our whole-school assembly, we acknowledged our new student leaders for 2026. Led by our 2026 School Captains.

College Captains
Truc Nguyen  Sudammi MAHEEPALA MUDALIGE Emmanuel LACOMEL JR   Nayab NAWROZI

We also celebrated the outstanding senior school results of our Class of 2025. It was wonderful to publicly acknowledge the hard work, commitment, and perseverance of our students. We proudly congratulate our three Dux for 2025 Estelle Foo Souye Chan (Dux-VCE General), Ezekiel Tafu Dux- VCE/Vocational Major and Aditi Singh (Dux- Victorian Pathways Certificate). I would like to acknowledge Estelle who achieved an outstanding ATAR of 94.75 Congratulations also to the students who recently featured in our Empowering Minds, Inspiring Futures booklet. We are very proud of you!

We also recognise the exceptional achievements of our Year 11 students who recorded outstanding study scores in the following subjects: Sudammi Maheepala Mudalige achieving a study score of 45 for General Maths. Year 10 student Jana Abanto who achieved a study score of 40 in General Math. These results reflect the dedication of our students, the support of families, and the high expectations and expertise of our staff.

Each year, we continue to focus on improving learning outcomes for all students. A careful analysis of our data helps us to identify both our successes and the areas where further support is required. Every four years, schools undertake a formal review process. This involves a reviewer and external challenge partners, including principals from local schools, who conduct a deep dive into our achievements, practices, and learning culture.

We are currently part way through this review and expect the process to be finalised later this term. Thank you to the students, parents /carers and staff who have engaged in our focus group discussions. At its conclusion, recommendations will be made that will directly inform the goals of our new four-year Strategic Plan. This is an important process that will shape the future direction and work at the college.

I would like to acknowledge the successful evening launch of our Sports Academy for 2026. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event. Mr Hare will lead the Sports Academy during Ms Louden’s absence, and we are confident the program will continue to go from strength to strength.

Congratulations to Hollows House for winning the House Swimming Carnival. Well done to all students who competed, and represented their House with pride, and gave their best effort. One of the great aspects of the Swimming Carnival at HP is that it is about much more than swimming. Students also enjoyed novelty events, dancing, chess, basketball, volleyball, and giant Jenga, making the day inclusive and enjoyable for all.

House Competition Results:

  1. Hollows – 308
  2. Walton – 237
  3. Freeman – 232
  4. Mabo – 204

This term, we have launched our new Instructional Model. Every lesson taught at the school contains the following components- Activate, Explicit Instruction, Practice, Apply and Review. This framework supports teachers to deliver lessons in a consistent and effective way across the college. The launch was supported by an impressive student-led video, designed to help students understand what to expect in their classrooms. We are excited about the positive impact this model will have on teaching and learning. I wish to acknowledge Assistant Principal Ms Kylie Hanna and the Domain Leaders with this dedicated work.

Our buildings and grounds continue to be upgraded. On the first day of return, we have opened our new First Aid/Health Space for students. This is a new improved space and provides better access for students. Asphalting and fencing around the maintenance shed have now been completed. Preparations are underway for a new undercover bike shed, to be located near the outdoor court, with entry and exit via Campbell Drive. A reminder to all students that Victorian road laws require all bike and scooter riders to always wear a helmet—this includes students of HP.

We are also planning the installation of new and improved student toilet facilities. This work is expected to take place later this term, with the facilities opening early in Term 2.

Dates to Remember

  • College Open Day – Tuesday 4 March
This is a wonderful opportunity for prospective students and families to visit our college and see learning in action, while gaining a first-hand understanding of what makes our school special.
  • Labour Day Public Holiday – Monday 9 March
    No school on this day.
  • Student-Led Conferences – Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 March
These conferences provide an excellent opportunity to meet with teachers and hear directly from students about their learning during Term 1. Further details will be provided shortly.

I look forward to another positive and productive year working together as a strong and supportive school community.

Kind regards

Wayne Haworth

At Freeman House, we are proud to be named after the great Australian Indigenous athlete Cathy Freeman. Cathy Freeman represents hard work, perseverance, pride, and a strong sense of community—qualities we strive to embody every day. In Freeman, we model our core school values of Learning, Respect, and Working Together. These principles guide us to aim for excellence, treat others with kindness, and collaborate to achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

One of the highlights this term was our annual Swimming Carnival. It was a fantastic day that brought students from all year levels together to showcase their swimming skills, house pride, and sportsmanship. The energy of the day was a wonderful display of our house pride and College values of respect and working together. Congratulations to the Hollows House on their outstanding achievement, and a massive congratulations to all students, in particular our Freeman students who participated and contributed, gaining us some very valuable house points.

Hollows House: A Fantastic Start to 2026

Halfway through Term 1, it has been a fantastic start to the year for Hollows House, with great House spirit and pride already on full display.

We have seen an incredible number of values nominations come through, which is a true reflection of the positive efforts happening in classrooms every day. It has been particularly pleasing to read about the respect and courtesy shown to others, especially staff members, with students helping to clean up classrooms after lessons, opening doors for peers and staff, and consistently demonstrating politeness and care. These are the qualities we value deeply in Hollows, and we encourage everyone to keep up this outstanding work.

We were also thrilled to see so many Hollows students receive leadership positions this year. From Sudammi, our College Captain, to Acacia, our House Captain, we have a strong and inspiring group of students representing our College in a variety of leadership and committee roles. Congratulations as well to all students who were recognised at our recent whole school assembly- your awards were very well deserved, and you continue to make us proud.

Our Year 7 students have settled in exceptionally well. Transitioning into life at Hampton Park Secondary College can feel overwhelming at first, navigating the school grounds, organising lockers, and learning new timetables; but they have approached it with maturity and enthusiasm. A reminder to all students that the Hollows team is always here to support you. Just as importantly, so are your peers. There are so many wonderful students in Hollows House who are more than willing to lend a hand. Sometimes, all you need to do is ask.

Our House pride and culture truly shone last week at our annual College Swimming Sports. As the Water House, this is the event we thrive in, having won the event for the past two consecutive years. The pressure was on to achieve a third straight victory, and our students rose to the challenge magnificently.

Seeing the shades of blue across the pool was impressive enough, but watching our students compete with determination, teamwork and energy made it even more special. With such strong participation across all events, it was truly our day. Hollows House proudly claimed the 2026 College Swimming Sports title, securing the threepeat in dominant fashion! Stay tuned for the unveiling of our new banner, which will soon be displayed proudly in the Hollows foyer.

With Ramadan currently taking place, we extend our warm wishes to all members of our community observing this important time. “Ramadan Mubarak” (Blessed Ramadan) and “Ramadan Kareem” (Generous Ramadan) are greetings used to wish friends, family and colleagues a peaceful, blessed and prosperous holy month.

Looking ahead, our attention now turns to NAPLAN for our Year 7 and Year 9 students. NAPLAN provides a valuable snapshot of progress in literacy and numeracy. As a House and as a College, we encourage our students to approach these assessments with confidence and pride, showing just how far you have come in your learning journey.

Thank you to all students, families and staff for contributing to such a strong and positive start to the year. Hollows House spirit is alive and well and we are only just getting started.

Welcome to 2026!

Hello Mabo students, families and friends,

Over the first week we have welcomed our new Year 7 students to our community- this is an exciting time as you embark on a new chapter of your schooling, and we look forward to being part of it. It’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions – excitement, nervousness, curiosity – but remember, you’re not alone. Every student around you is experiencing similar feelings, and our staff is here to support you every step of the way.

During these first few weeks you’ll have the chance to explore your new surroundings, meet your teachers and classmates, and start to get a feel for the rhythm of high school life. Take advantage of this time to familiarise yourself with your timetable, find your classrooms, and get involved in any extracurricular activities or clubs that interest you.

As you settle in, keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. High school is a time of growth and self-discovery, and it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. Embrace the challenges, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to seek help when you need it.

Above all, remember to be kind to yourself and others. High school is not just about your studies; it’s also about forming connections, building friendships, and creating lasting memories. So, take a deep breath, smile, and enjoy this exciting new beginning!

As a House Team, Mabo has welcomed many new students across all other year levels, and it has been great meeting you all-we’re committed to providing you with an enriching and supportive learning environment and look forward to celebrating your success.

To those students entering your final years at the College, make sure you get involved in all aspects of the school, both within and outside the classroom, while you make lifelong memories!

To all Mabo students, as you step into our classroom, remember that each day is an opportunity to grow, learn, and discover new things about yourself and the world around you. Our dedicated teachers and staff are here to guide and inspire you along the way.

Embrace the challenges, celebrate your successes, and never hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Together, we can achieve great things.

House Update

Mabo House is the current House Champion (and has won the trophy four years in a row).

Being the decent people we are, we have given the other three Houses a head start at the recent swimming carnival finishing in 4th place. Over the last few years we have been exceptional and learning habit results- I look forward to sharing the overall score at the end of Term 1.

Congratulations to Hollows House for taking out the Swimming Carnival award.

House Swimming Results:

  1. Hollows – 308
  2. Walton – 237
  3. Freeman – 232
  4. Mabo – 204

Here’s to a fantastic school year filled with learning, laughter, and endless possibilities. Let’s make it one to remember!

Soaring Into a New School Year with Walton House

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome back to another exciting year at Hampton Park Secondary College. We hope that all our students and families from Years 8 to 12 enjoyed a restful and well-deserved summer break.

As we began the school year, we were delighted to welcome every student and family back onto campus, and we extended an especially warm greeting to our new Year 7 students and caregivers. Beginning high school is a major step filled with new challenges, opportunities, and connections. We are proud to welcome you into our community and encourage you to approach this journey with curiosity, confidence, and a willingness to try new things.

We are fortunate to have a dedicated team in Walton House who work closely with students to ensure they feel supported, connected, and ready to take flight. Students are always welcome to visit the Walton House office for support, advice, or even just a friendly conversation. They can also contact any member of the team through email. Families are warmly encouraged to reach out by phone or email if they would like to discuss their child’s learning or wellbeing.

Walton House Team:

House Leader: Mr Joel Fraser

Year 7-9 Student Learning Leader: Ms Niamh Clarke

Year 10-12 Student Learning Leader: Ms Naomi Dawson

House Administration Assistant:  Ms Mareta Alipia

At Walton House, we are proud to be named after the pioneering Australian aviator Nancy Bird Walton. Nancy represents courage, resilience, leadership, and a deep commitment to community. These are the qualities we strive to reflect in everything we do.

In Walton, we model our core school values of Learning, Respect, and Working Together. These principles guide us to approach challenges with confidence, support one another, and aim for excellence both inside and outside the classroom. Inspired by Nancy Bird Waltons remarkable legacy, we continue to grow, achieve, and contribute to our community with pride.

One of the highlights of the term was our annual Swimming Carnival. Even though everyone knows that eagles are far better at soaring through the sky than paddling through a pool, our Walton students refused to let basic biology get in the way. With plenty of determination and a healthy amount of house pride, the Eagles hit the water and proved that while we may not be built for swimming, we can still make a serious splash landing an impressive second place on the day.

Congratulations to Hollows House on their well deserved win. Most importantly, congratulations to every student who participated.

As we move through the year, we look forward to seeing Walton students get involved in a wide range of opportunities, from sport and academic challenges to community events and the everyday moments where they show our values in action.

We are proud of how Walton students represent our College and look forward to a year filled with growth, achievement, and experiences that reflect the spirit of Nancy Bird Walton.
