Principal’s Report
Welcome to 2026 and another exciting year of learning at our college. It is extra special as this year the college celebrates its 40th Anniversary and a lot has been achieved during that time.
We commence this year with many new students joining our community, along with a strong increase in enrolment inquiries. Our school is growing, and this growth is a clear endorsement of the great work that continues to happen here every day. I warmly welcome all new students and families to the college and look forward to the year ahead.
I would also like to acknowledge and welcome several new staff members who have joined our college this year. We are thrilled to have you as part of our team. In addition, I am pleased to share the safe arrival of babies for Ms Louden and Ms Prosser. We congratulate them and their families on this wonderful news and wish them every happiness during this special time.
Recently, at our whole-school assembly, we acknowledged our new student leaders for 2026. Led by our 2026 School Captains.
College Captains
Truc Nguyen Sudammi MAHEEPALA MUDALIGE Emmanuel LACOMEL JR Nayab NAWROZI
We also celebrated the outstanding senior school results of our Class of 2025. It was wonderful to publicly acknowledge the hard work, commitment, and perseverance of our students. We proudly congratulate our three Dux for 2025 Estelle Foo Souye Chan (Dux-VCE General), Ezekiel Tafu Dux- VCE/Vocational Major and Aditi Singh (Dux- Victorian Pathways Certificate). I would like to acknowledge Estelle who achieved an outstanding ATAR of 94.75 Congratulations also to the students who recently featured in our Empowering Minds, Inspiring Futures booklet. We are very proud of you!
We also recognise the exceptional achievements of our Year 11 students who recorded outstanding study scores in the following subjects: Sudammi Maheepala Mudalige achieving a study score of 45 for General Maths. Year 10 student Jana Abanto who achieved a study score of 40 in General Math. These results reflect the dedication of our students, the support of families, and the high expectations and expertise of our staff.
Each year, we continue to focus on improving learning outcomes for all students. A careful analysis of our data helps us to identify both our successes and the areas where further support is required. Every four years, schools undertake a formal review process. This involves a reviewer and external challenge partners, including principals from local schools, who conduct a deep dive into our achievements, practices, and learning culture.
We are currently part way through this review and expect the process to be finalised later this term. Thank you to the students, parents /carers and staff who have engaged in our focus group discussions. At its conclusion, recommendations will be made that will directly inform the goals of our new four-year Strategic Plan. This is an important process that will shape the future direction and work at the college.
I would like to acknowledge the successful evening launch of our Sports Academy for 2026. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event. Mr Hare will lead the Sports Academy during Ms Louden’s absence, and we are confident the program will continue to go from strength to strength.
Congratulations to Hollows House for winning the House Swimming Carnival. Well done to all students who competed, and represented their House with pride, and gave their best effort. One of the great aspects of the Swimming Carnival at HP is that it is about much more than swimming. Students also enjoyed novelty events, dancing, chess, basketball, volleyball, and giant Jenga, making the day inclusive and enjoyable for all.
House Competition Results:
- Hollows – 308
- Walton – 237
- Freeman – 232
- Mabo – 204
This term, we have launched our new Instructional Model. Every lesson taught at the school contains the following components- Activate, Explicit Instruction, Practice, Apply and Review. This framework supports teachers to deliver lessons in a consistent and effective way across the college. The launch was supported by an impressive student-led video, designed to help students understand what to expect in their classrooms. We are excited about the positive impact this model will have on teaching and learning. I wish to acknowledge Assistant Principal Ms Kylie Hanna and the Domain Leaders with this dedicated work.
Our buildings and grounds continue to be upgraded. On the first day of return, we have opened our new First Aid/Health Space for students. This is a new improved space and provides better access for students. Asphalting and fencing around the maintenance shed have now been completed. Preparations are underway for a new undercover bike shed, to be located near the outdoor court, with entry and exit via Campbell Drive. A reminder to all students that Victorian road laws require all bike and scooter riders to always wear a helmet—this includes students of HP.
We are also planning the installation of new and improved student toilet facilities. This work is expected to take place later this term, with the facilities opening early in Term 2.
Dates to Remember
- College Open Day – Tuesday 4 March
This is a wonderful opportunity for prospective students and families to visit our college and see learning in action, while gaining a first-hand understanding of what makes our school special. - Labour Day Public Holiday – Monday 9 March
No school on this day. - Student-Led Conferences – Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 March
These conferences provide an excellent opportunity to meet with teachers and hear directly from students about their learning during Term 1. Further details will be provided shortly.
I look forward to another positive and productive year working together as a strong and supportive school community.
Kind regards
Wayne Haworth
