Principal’s Report

Read Time: ( words)

Dear Families,

As we reach the end of another busy and successful term, I would like to thank students who have consistently demonstrate our school values of Respect, Learning and Working Together. Every day, we see students making positive choices, supporting one another, engaging in their learning and contributing positively to our college community. These behaviours help create a school environment where everyone can thrive.

This term has been filled with a wide range of learning opportunities, celebrations and important milestones.

Our students participated in the Student Attitudes to School Survey, providing valuable feedback about their experiences at Hampton Park Secondary College. Student voice is an important part of our improvement journey, and we appreciate the thoughtful contributions. The survey results will be available for analysis next term.

One of the highlights of the term was the Year 11 and 12 Formal held at The Grand. It was a wonderful evening that allowed our senior students to celebrate their achievements, friendships and school experiences in a positive and memorable setting. Thank you to the staff who supported the event and helped make it such a success.

Our Year 10, 11 and 12 students completed their mid-year examinations. These assessments provide valuable opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their progress and prepare for future pathways. I commend students for their efforts and the staff who supported them throughout the examination period. This week, senior students sat the GAT- General Achievement Test- which is an important academic safety net and verifies results and ensures fairness across all schools.

We have also been busy preparing for the future, with the Year 7 2027 transition process progressing well. Applications from local primary schools have been received, and families have now been notified regarding place offers. We look forward to welcoming the next cohort of Hampton Park Secondary College students.

Earlier this month, we hosted our annual Grade 5 Taster Days, providing primary school students with an opportunity to experience secondary school life. We welcomed students from:

  • Kilberry Valley Primary School and River Gum Primary School
  • Hampton Park Primary School
  • Coral Park Primary School and St Kevin’s Primary School
  • Lynbrook Primary School

It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic students engaging in activities across the college and beginning their transition journey.

Our Year 11 Business Management students once again showcased their creativity, planning and entrepreneurial skills through the annual Market Day. The event was a fantastic success and demonstrated the practical application of classroom learning in a real-world context.

Today at the college, students can look forward to our annual Talent Quest, which will be held on Monday 22 June at lunchtime. This event provides an opportunity for students to showcase their talents and celebrate the diverse abilities that exist within our school community.

As Semester 2 has now commenced, I encourage all students to remain focused on their learning goals. Families are reminded that our Homework Club continues to operate every Monday lunchtime and Thursday after school in the CRC (Library). This is an excellent opportunity for students to seek assistance, complete coursework and develop positive study habits.

Our annual Careers Expo was another outstanding success, featuring more than 70 exhibitors representing a wide range of industries, training providers and tertiary institutions. The event provided valuable insights into future pathways for our students. In addition, our Year 10 students participated in mock interviews and are finalising arrangements for Work Experience. We strongly encourage all students to embrace this opportunity, step outside their comfort zone and gain valuable workplace experience that will support future career decisions.

Thank you to Assistant Principal Mr Elderidge and Mr Kim Williams, our Rugby Coach, for supporting 7 students with the Guinness Book of Records for a Rugby Pass attempt at the MCG last Wednesday.  The previous record was 279 passes. Our students, amongst others from across the state smashed the record with 355 passes and scored themselves tickets to State of Origin last week.

City Week Experience – Year 9 students enjoyed a day in the city exploring and learning. Thank you to Assistant Principal Mr Joel Fraser for his work in leading and organising this event.

While there have been some delays with the construction of our new student toilet facilities, progress continues to be made. We are pleased to report that the project is nearing completion, and the facilities are expected to be available for student use at the beginning of Term 3.

A reminder that on the final day of term, students will be dismissed at 2:30 pm.

As we conclude the term, I thank our students, staff and families for their continued support and commitment to our college community.

I wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break. Term 3 will commence on Monday 13 July, and we look forward to welcoming students back for another exciting term of learning and achievement.

As we reach the midpoint of the year, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the achievements of Semester 1 and look ahead to Semester 2.

A couple of weeks ago, we had our Freeman Values Assembly. Congratulations to the following students on receiving awards in the following categories:

Our Year 9 students recently participated in their Melbourne CBD City Experience excursion. The excursion provided students with the opportunity to explore the city, engage in real-world learning experiences, and develop their independence.

The Year 11 and 12 Formal, held at Grand Receptions, provided students with an opportunity to celebrate this important milestone together. It was pleasing to see students enjoy the evening and create lasting memories with their peers.

We would like to acknowledge the hard work and effort shown by our students throughout the semester. As classes conclude and assessments are complete, reports are written, we congratulate all students on their commitment to their learning. A big congratulations to our Year 10, 11 and 12 students for completing their mid-year exams and the GAT. We recognise the preparation and effort required and commend students for the way they approached these important assessments.

End of Term 2

As we reach the end of another busy and successful term, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the many events, achievements and experiences that have brought our Hollows House community together.

World Cup Fever Hits HPSC

World Cup fever has certainly arrived at Hampton Park Secondary College, and Hollows House has embraced it wholeheartedly! Who are you supporting? Australia? Another country? Perhaps your family’s home nation?

The screens around the school have been showing matches throughout the tournament, and it has been fantastic to see students and staff coming together to share their passion for the world game. The excitement, colours, cultures and friendly rivalries have created a wonderful atmosphere around the College. Events like the World Cup remind us how sport has the power to unite people from all backgrounds.

May the best team win!

Celebrating Culture and Diversity

Hollows House has always taken great pride in celebrating the diverse cultures that make up our school community, and the past month has been a real highlight.

Students were actively involved in our Multicultural Assembly and Harmony Day celebrations, as well as activities recognising National Reconciliation Week. These events provided an opportunity for us all to learn from one another, celebrate our differences and recognise the many cultures and stories that contribute to our community.

This is truly what makes Hampton Park Secondary College such a wonderful place to learn and work. We embrace and celebrate the rich diversity of our students, families and staff, creating a community where everyone belongs.

Looking Ahead to Term 3

There is plenty to look forward to when we return next term.

Our annual 4C’s Spectacular will be held early in Term 3 and promises to be another fantastic showcase of student talent, leadership and community spirit.

We are also excited for the College production, Replay, Rewind, taking place at the end of July. Many Hollows students are involved in the production, and we encourage everyone to come along and support the incredible work of our performers, musicians, backstage crew and staff. We know it will be a fantastic show.

Talent Show Success

Congratulations to all students and staff who participated in this year’s Talent Show. It was wonderful to see so many members of our community sharing their talents and passions with others.

A special congratulations must go to our Student Leadership Team for their organisation and leadership of the event. The Talent Show continues to be a highlight on the school calendar and a great opportunity for students to showcase their abilities.

Year 9 City Experience

Recently, our Year 9 students participated in the City Experience. We hope you enjoyed your adventure through Melbourne and the opportunity to explore some of the city’s iconic locations, including Hosier Lane, ACMI, the National Gallery of Victoria and Queen Victoria Market.

Experiences like these help bring learning to life while allowing students to explore the cultural and historical significance of our city.

Road to Success Careers Expo

Another recent highlight was our Road to Success Careers Expo. We hope this event encouraged students to think more deeply about their future pathways and career aspirations.

Students had the opportunity to speak with industry professionals, explore VET options and learn about the many pathways available after school. Whether your goal is university, TAFE, an apprenticeship, traineeship or direct employment, events such as this provide valuable information and connections that can help shape future decisions.

GAT and Mid-Year Examinations

Congratulations to all Year 12 students and those Year 11 students who recently completed the GAT. Your preparation and commitment throughout the process were commendable.

Students have also now completed their mid-year examinations and Semester 1 reports have been finalised. Reports provide valuable feedback on your progress and should be used as an important tool for improvement. Take the time to reflect on your strengths, celebrate your achievements and identify areas where you can continue to grow.

If you require support in any subject area, please remember that help is available. Speak with your teachers, your House team or your parents and carers. We all want to see you succeed and are here to support you every step of the way.

House Values Award Winners

Congratulations to all students who were recognised at our recent House Values Assembly. Your efforts, positive attitude and commitment to our House values have not gone unnoticed.

Keep striving for excellence, supporting those around you and, most importantly, attending school every day. Consistent attendance remains one of the most important factors in achieving success.

Have a Safe and Relaxing Break

As Term 2 comes to a close, I would like to thank all students, families and staff for their continued support of Hollows House.

We wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break. Take the opportunity to relax, recharge and spend time with family and friends.

House News

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

At Walton House, Term 2 has been marked by sustained engagement, reflection, and achievement across a wide range of College experiences. Building on the strong foundation established at the beginning of the term, students have continued to embody the enduring values of courage, perseverance, leadership, and service inspired by Nancy Bird Walton.

A highlight of the term has been the Year 9 City Experience, which provided students with an authentic opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Through exploration of Melbourne’s cultural, historical, and civic spaces, students demonstrated independence, curiosity, and respect for their environment. The experience strengthened their understanding of community, identity, and responsibility, while also fostering collaboration and resilience in unfamiliar settings.

Our Values Assembly was another significant moment in the life of Walton House. This occasion invited students to reflect more deeply on the principles that underpin our College culture. Through student contributions and shared stories, the assembly reinforced the importance of integrity, respect, and service in everyday actions. It provided a meaningful reminder that values are not simply discussed but are lived through consistent behaviour and positive contribution to the community. As a result of the great work of Walton students, we have moved up into 2nd place overall with eyes looking forward to overtaking Hollows before the end of the year.

Mid-year exams have also been a central focus this term. Students approached this period with increasing maturity and accountability, demonstrating their ability to manage time, prepare effectively, and respond to academic challenge. The commitment shown throughout the examination period reflects a growing sense of ownership over learning and a clear drive to achieve personal best.

Acknowledgement must also be given to the many quieter contributions that shape our community each day. Acts of kindness, leadership within peer groups, and a commitment to inclusion continue to define the culture of Walton House. These everyday actions are essential in building a respectful and supportive environment where all students can thrive.

As we move towards the conclusion of Term 2, Walton House is well positioned for continued growth. The term has reflected a balance of academic focus, experiential learning, and community connection. Students have consistently demonstrated the values that define our House, and this provides a strong platform as we look ahead to the opportunities of Term 3 and beyond.

The Learning behind our Success

The Heart of our Teaching

This year, we proudly launched our college Instructional Model, creating a consistent and visible learning routine across every classroom. Following a successful introduction earlier this year, we are continuing to embed the model throughout the college to further strengthen student learning and classroom practice.

Our Instructional Model is a five-phase approach grounded in evidence-based practice and informed by current educational research about how students learn most effectively. Importantly, the model was thoughtfully developed through collaboration between staff and students, ensuring it reflects both strong teaching practices and the everyday experiences of our classrooms.

Throughout Term 1, our focus centred on the Activate phase of the model, where students retrieved prior knowledge, revisited key concepts and engaged with clear Learning Intentions and Success Criteria. This supported students to better understand their learning goals and what success looks like in every lesson.

Voices of our Students

As we continue through the Activate phase of our instructional model, we’re proud to share reflections from students at Hampton Park Secondary College about the learning strategies helping them succeed:

“In Maths, my teacher provides multiple choice questions and checks our understanding using mini whiteboards. It helps me see what I know and what I need to improve on.” – Ricky Siv (Year 9)

“In Psychology, my teacher uses mini whiteboard activities to help us activate prior knowledge. I recently participated in one of these activities when we were exploring the characteristics of REM sleep.” – Revica Rawat (Year 12)

Our Instructional Model continues to shape the way we teach and learn, ensuring every student benefits from a consistent, engaging and high-quality learning experience.

Road to Success Expo
Another outstanding year of the Road to Success Expo, with industry and educational stallholders generously engaging with our school community. This career expo gives students valuable insight into a wide range of possible career pathways, encouraging them to dream big and explore their futures. Our aim is to empower every student to design and develop a meaningful career and live a fulfilling life. The event was a great success, with strong student participation from years 9-12 throughout the day.

Arrive and Thrive – Year 10 Workshop
Year 10 students were invited to participate in a careers workshop with guest speaker Tyson Day, focused on increasing employability and work engagement. The session supported students to develop career management and self development skills, while also fostering a positive and proactive mindset towards future opportunities.

If you’d like to find out more about Arrive and Thrive press this link. Arrive & Thrive – High School Career Education Workshops

Mock Interviews
Year 10 students also took part in our Mock Interview program. We were fortunate to have 23 business managers and industry leaders volunteer their morning to simulate real interview experiences with each student. Feedback from interviewers was overwhelmingly positive, with comments such as “such respectful stud

ents” and “they were really well prepared with their resumes and questions.”

While initially nervous, students left the experience feeling more confident and supported, with many sharing reflections such as “that was really great” and “I got lots of good tips.” Most students highly valued the opportunity, and we hope this experience helps prepare them for future job applications and their first employment opportunities.

VET Tasters

Year 10 students had the amazing opportunity to get a glimpse of our VET courses run on campus in purpose build classrooms.

Students participated in practical activities in VET Engineering, Cookery, Health Services, Business and Sport and Recreation.

From cake decorating, to taking blood pressure, escape room fun, making their own fidget spinners, and enjoying recreation activities, just a small snapshot of the fun involved in gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

VET courses are open to year 11 and 12 students.

Term 2 has been another exciting term filled with many sporting events. Students have represented the school across a range of competitions including badminton, netball, soccer and AFL. The commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship displayed by all students throughout the term has been outstanding. A special congratulations goes to our Senior Girls Soccer Team and Year 7 Girls Soccer Team, who have both progressed to Regionals. This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of their hard work and determination. Our AFL team also deserves recognition. This year marked the first time in over five years that our AFL team has been able to attend interschool sport. The team should be extremely proud of their efforts on the day!

Thank you to all students, staff and coaches who contributed to another successful term of school sport. We look forward to seeing what can be achieved in Term 3.

Academy Updates

Rugby Academy

It has been an exciting and busy term for our Rugby Students.

Our Under 18s competed in their inaugural season of the Storm Cup, gaining valuable experience and showcasing their talent throughout the competition. They also participated in the Storm Trophy Gala Day, continuing to develop their skills and represent the school with pride.

Our year 10/11/12 students had an amazing day out visiting AAMI Park for the Storm Waka Careers Program.

The program aims to expose young and emerging leaders in schools with diverse career pathways available in Sports Administration.

Our students were greeted by the opportunity to observe both the NRL Storm and N.S.W origin players training for their next match. A once in a lifetime opportunity!

Throughout the day, keynote speakers shared their background and experiences which cleared a path and placed them in the position they are in now. Students asked questions, took notes and participated in all activities.
