It has been another busy and positive period at Hampton Park Secondary College, with students involved in a range of learning, sporting and community activities.

Next Week, our Learning Conferences will take place. Wednesday 26^th 2.10- 4.10pm and Thursday 27^th August 9.00 am to 3.10pm. I encourage all families to take advantage of the bookings and conversations as this information is highly valuable for students and their learning.

House Athletics Carnival

Our House Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day, with students competing enthusiastically across a range of track and field events. It was great to see students supporting their House, encouraging one another and demonstrating our college values of Respect, Learning and Working Together.

Congratulations to all students who participated and contributed points to their House.

The final House results were:

🥇 1st – Mabo House: 694 points
🥈 2nd – Hollows House: 587 points
🥉 3rd – Freeman House: 505 points
4th – Walton House: 477 points

A special congratulations to Mabo House on taking out the overall carnival. Thank you also to our staff who worked behind the scenes to organise and run the day, and to our students who helped make the carnival such a success.

Events such as the House Athletics Carnival are an important part of college life. While competition is certainly part of the day, the opportunity for students to step outside their usual classrooms, try something new and support their peers is equally valuable.

I was particularly pleased to see students encouraging their House teammates and celebrating the efforts of others. These are the moments that help build the strong sense of community we value at Hampton Park Secondary College.

Course Counselling – Making Informed Choices

Course counselling is an important time in the College calendar, as students begin to consider their subjects and the pathways they would like to pursue in the future.

For our junior students, course selection is an opportunity to gain breadth in their learning and experience subjects across different areas. We encourage students to keep their options open, try new things and develop a broad range of skills and knowledge.

For our senior students, subject selection becomes increasingly important in preparing for future pathways. Students should consider their strengths, interests and passions, while also identifying subjects that are required or recommended for their intended career or further study pathway.

I encourage students and families to take the time to have meaningful conversations about these choices. Selecting subjects simply because a friend has chosen them, or because they believe a particular subject will be “easy”, is unlikely to lead to the best outcome. Students are far more likely to be successful when they are engaged in subjects that play to their strengths and that they genuinely enjoy.

Our staff are available to support students through this process and help them make informed decisions about their future.

Domain Weeks- Arts /STEM Week and Science Week

We have also been celebrating the breadth of learning available to our students through Arts/STEM Week and Languages and this week- Science Week.

These weeks provide opportunities for students to experience learning beyond the traditional classroom and to see how creativity, curiosity, experimentation and problem-solving can be applied in different ways.

Science Week has taken place this week, with students engaging in activities designed to encourage curiosity and develop an appreciation of the role science plays in our everyday lives. I would like to thank our Science staff for the work they have put into making the week engaging for students.

Arts Week and Languages Week has similarly provided opportunities for students to explore their creativity and experience the many different forms that the Arts/Languages that take place within our College.

VEX Robotics Competition– Last Friday, during our Curriculum Day we hosted the VEX Robotics competition in our gymnasium. Approximately, 200 students and teams from a range of primary and secondary school took part in this event. Thank you to Mr Russell Beveridge and Ms Christen Barnard for their support and leadership of this engaging event for students.

Echoes of Country

We are also looking forward to Echoes of Country, an important day celebrating First Nations culture, knowledge and connection to Country. Assistant Principal Ms Kelly Krieg has led a team of passionate educators from across Casey Central Network to increase awareness and celebrate indigenous culture.

The day commenced with all students moving into the presentation space, where we heard didgeridoo playing and an Acknowledgement of Country, presented by HPSC student leaders alongside nominated leaders from other schools.

Students then heard from our keynote speaker, Megan Waters, before participating in a series of cultural activities throughout the day. Students will undertake six 30-minute rotations, providing them with opportunities to engage in a range of experiences connected to First Nations culture and perspectives.

The day included music, dancing, face painting and other activities during lunchtime.

I wish to congratulate Ms Krieg and team for their hard work and passion in providing such very valuable learning experiences for our students.

Student Attitudes to School Survey

We have recently received the preliminary results from our Student Attitudes to School Survey.

The survey provides us with important feedback directly from our students about their experiences at Hampton Park Secondary College. We are currently in the process of analysing the results carefully to identify what is working well and where there are opportunities for further support and improvement.

As always, student voice is an important part of our improvement work. The survey results will help inform our thinking about how we can continue to strengthen the learning, wellbeing and overall experience of our students.

Curriculum Day

Last Friday, our staff participated in a Curriculum Day focused on strengthening our teaching and learning practices.

Curriculum Days provide an important opportunity for staff to step away from the day-to-day demands of the classroom and work collaboratively on the practices that have the greatest impact on student learning.

The work undertaken by staff will continue to support our ongoing implementation of Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, with a focus on consistent, high-quality teaching and learning across the College.

I would like to thank our staff for their continued commitment to improving outcomes for every student.

Multi-cultural evening and 4 C’s

We are excited as it is now not long until the 4Cs showcase takes place at Bunjil. Cultivating, Creative Cultures with Communities is a special event each year on the calendar. On the evening of Tuesday 1^st September, our students will perform.

Replay, Rewind– I wish to acknowledge to wonderful work of our students at the recent performance of our school play for 2026.  Thank you for our performing Arts Team for their great support and guidance of our students.

Sports Academy- Based on the performance of our soccer academy teams, I am pleased to report that we have received an invitation to attend the competition on the Gold Coast in November.

Courtyard upgrade – Plans to upgrade the Walton Courtyard tender stage have moved to the Tender stage. I am expecting for work to commence on this project during Term 4.

House News

Hollows House – Term 3, Week 7

What a fantastic start to Term 3 it has been for Hollows House! There has been plenty happening across the school, and it has been fantastic to see so many of our students getting involved, representing Hollows with pride and giving their best.

Athletics Day

We once again showed House pride with a fantastic Athletics Day, where Hollows had a very strong representation. We had the highest attendance of any House, which was fantastic to see, and it was even better to see so many students getting involved, competing and winning ribbons.

Overall, Hollows finished second, helping us move closer to the ultimate prize at the end of the year, the House Cup! Every point counts, so we need everyone to continue giving their all this term. Let’s keep building the momentum and bring that trophy home!

Year 7 Swimming Week

Our Year 7 students recently completed their Swimming Week at Casey ARC. It was great to see students developing their confidence and skills in the water while representing Hollows throughout the week. A big thank you to our Year 7 students and staff for making the program such a success.

Eric Agyeman– The Power of Words

Our Year 7 students also participated in a full-day incursion with Eric Agyeman, featuring a keynote presentation followed by workshops throughout the day in House groups.

The sessions provided students with an opportunity to reflect on the impact that our words can have on others, particularly when we make comments without considering how they might be received. We hope the messages from the keynote and workshops really hit home for our Hollows students and that they continue to think carefully about the power of their words and the impact they can have on others.

Replay, Rewind

Hollows was also strongly represented in the recent school production, Replay, Rewind. Congratulations to all of our Hollows students involved in the production. Their commitment, talent and dedication to the performing arts was fantastic to see, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.

Looking ahead, we have plenty more happening in the performing arts space. The 4C’s event is coming up, celebrating the multiculturalism and diversity that makes our school and wider community so special. We also have our School Band Tours at the end of the month, where our school bands will perform lunchtime concerts for our feeder primary schools.

ACER Testing & Student Growth

We started the term with ACER testing, helping us develop a stronger understanding of where our students are positioned across reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.

It has been fantastic to see so many Hollows students demonstrate growth across these areas. We want every student to continue giving their best – not only during testing, but in everything they do. Every effort contributes to learning and growth.

Domain Weeks

So far this term, we have celebrated a number of fantastic Domain Weeks, including Arts/STEM Week, Humanities Week, Languages Week and, most recently, Science Week.

These weeks provide great opportunities to immerse yourself in different areas of the curriculum and get involved in activities that have been specifically designed to promote curiosity, creativity and engagement. We encourage all Hollows students to take advantage of the many opportunities our school provides.

Course Counselling & Pathways

Course counselling has continued this term and will continue again this week. We have been really pleased with the thoughtful conversations students have been having about their subject choices and future pathways.

Choosing subjects is about finding the right balance between what you enjoy, what you are good at, maintaining a breadth of curriculum and considering where you might want your future to take you. Career pathways have also been discussed as part of these conversations.

Remember, everyone’s pathway is different and diverse. There is no single definition of success, and the choices you make should help you build a pathway that is right for you.

Learning Habits Reports

Finally, Learning Habits Reports will be released this week. We encourage all Hollows students to use these reports as an opportunity to reflect on their progress.

Celebrate the areas where you are doing well, but also identify the areas where you can improve. These reports can also be a useful starting point for conversations during course counselling and subject selection.

As well as this, Student led conferences are next week and these learning habits reports can be used as a reference point for conversations with your teachers and parents. Make sure you have made your bookings for the conferences next week!

There is plenty still to come this term, Hollows! Let’s continue to Respect, Learn and Work Together, give our best in everything we do, and keep building towards that House Cup!

Term 3 has been a busy and exciting term at Hampton Park Secondary College, with plenty of opportunities for students to get involved, have fun and show what they can do. Our Athletics Carnival was a real highlight, with students getting behind Freeman house and showing fantastic house pride throughout the day. From competing in events to cheering on their friends, students brought plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the carnival. It was great to see everyone getting involved, supporting each other and proudly representing Freeman House.

Course Counselling has also been an important focus throughout the term, with students across all year levels supported to consider their future learning and pathway options. We would like to thank our parents and carers for their involvement in the course counselling process and for taking the time to have meaningful conversations with their children about their interests, goals and future pathways. It has been wonderful to see students, families and staff working together to support positive decision-making. We are incredibly proud of all that has been achieved so fat this term.

MABO HOUSE ARE 2026 ATHLETICS DAY CHAMPIONS!

We are incredibly proud to announce that Mabo House has been crowned the 2026 Athletics Day Champion!

This outstanding achievement is a reflection of the incredible participation, determination, teamwork and House spirit shown by our students throughout Athletics Day. From the track to the field, our students stepped up, supported one another and proudly represented the Mabo colours.

Whether competing for points, cheering from the sidelines, encouraging a teammate or simply getting involved and having a go, every student contributed to our success.

This victory belongs to the entire Mabo House community. It is a fantastic example of what can happen when we demonstrate our values of Respect, Learning and Working Together.

Celebrating Learning and Academic Growth

Term 3 has been another busy and exciting term for Mabo House, with students embracing a wide range of opportunities to develop their learning, creativity, cultural understanding and connections across our school community.

Students participated in ACER Testing, providing an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge across a range of learning areas. These assessments help students and teachers identify strengths and areas for further growth, supporting students to continue working towards their individual learning goals.

Our themed learning weeks also provided exciting opportunities to engage with learning beyond the traditional classroom.

Arts and STEM Week encouraged students to explore creativity, innovation, problem-solving and design, highlighting the connections between the arts, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Humanities Week provided opportunities for students to explore history, geography, society and culture through engaging activities and experiences.

Students also participated in Science Week, celebrating scientific discovery, curiosity and the important role science plays in understanding and shaping our world.

Celebrating Creativity – Replay Rewind

One of the major highlights of the term was our school production, Replay Rewind.

Our students demonstrated incredible talent, creativity, dedication and teamwork throughout the production. From performing on stage to working behind the scenes, students played an important role in creating an entertaining and memorable experience for our school community.

Congratulations to all of our Mabo students who were involved in making Replay Rewind such a success!

Celebrating Language, Culture and Community

Term 3 has provided many opportunities to celebrate the incredible diversity of our school community.

Language Week celebrated the many languages spoken across our school, encouraging students to recognise the importance of language, communication and cultural identity.

We also proudly recognised National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, providing an opportunity to celebrate the culture, achievements and strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.

These celebrations help strengthen our understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures, experiences and perspectives that make our school community so special.

Year 7 Swimming Program

Our Year 7 students embraced their Swimming Program, developing swimming skills, confidence, water safety knowledge and independence.

The program provided students with valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom while encouraging them to challenge themselves, build confidence and support one another.

Planning for the Future

Term 3 has also been an important time for students to begin planning for the future.

Course Counselling for 2027 provided students with the opportunity to consider their interests, strengths, pathways and future goals when making decisions about their subjects and learning programs for next year.

These conversations are an important part of helping students take ownership of their learning and begin building a pathway towards their future aspirations.

Looking Ahead

What an incredible term for Mabo House!

From winning Athletics Day, to performing in Replay Rewind, developing new skills through the Year 7 Swimming Program, celebrating culture and language, engaging in STEM and Science activities, and planning for future pathways, our students have continued to embrace opportunities to learn, connect and grow.

Most importantly, our Athletics Day victory demonstrated the incredible House spirit that exists within Mabo.

It has been another busy and rewarding period for Walton House, with students continuing to demonstrate their commitment to learning, participation, and our College values of Learning, Respect, and Working Together.

A particular highlight was the recent Athletics Carnival, where Walton students represented the House with enthusiasm and pride. Well done to all students who participated, supported their peers, and contributed points towards our House Championship campaign. Whether competing in an event, stepping in to fill a spot, or cheering from the sidelines, the willingness of Walton students to get involved and support one another was fantastic to see.

Sport and Academies Updates for Term 3

Rugby Academy

Kicking off the start of term our 14s Girls and Boys Rugby teams qualified for the Cam Smith Shield after putting in some fantastic performances. We’re incredibly proud of their hard work, commitment and team spirit and wish them all the very best as they take on the best at State.

Soccer Academy

The Victory Cup event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to compete alongside Melbourne Victory.

Our 16s Boys team put in an outstanding performance, securing a fantastic win over Rowville. This is a huge achievement for the team and a great reward for their hard work, determination and commitment.

Congratulations to all teams and staff on a huge week!

Hosting our first game – Soccer Academy

We were excited to host our first friendly 9-a-side soccer event for our Year 8 and Year 9 Soccer Academy Girls teams, taking on Fountain Gate.

Braving the weather, both teams showed great determination and enthusiasm throughout the day. Our Year 8 Girls had an outstanding result, coming away with a fantastic 3–0 victory, while our Year 9 Girls played a strong game and finished with a draw.

It was a fantastic day and a great experience for both teams, providing an excellent opportunity for our students to put their skills into practice, build team connections and enjoy competing in a friendly environment.

A huge thank you to Mr Moschetti, Mr Jessop and our student helpers for their time, effort and support in making the day such a great success.

Volleyball Cup

The Volleyball Cup took place in Week 6, with our Senior Boys team putting in an outstanding performance throughout the competition. 

We’re thrilled to share that the team took out the championship. This is a fantastic achievement that reflects their hard work, teamwork and commitment.

Congratulations to our Volleyball champions.

Athletics Carnival

Our Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day of competition, teamwork and school spirit. Despite the cold weather, our students braved the weather and made it a really fun and memorable day.

A big congratulations to all our students who competed and gave their best throughout the day. We’re now looking forward to the next stage, with our students heading off to Division Athletics on 10 September.

Interschool Sport

Interschool Sport has officially started, with our Senior Day taking place on 10 August.

Our students competed across basketball, handball and futsal, representing the school with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. A special congratulations goes to our Senior Girls and Boys Futsal teams, who both came home with the win.

There is still plenty more to come, with our Intermediate, Year 8 and Year 7 teams heading out for Interschool Sport in Weeks 7, 8 and 10.

We wish all our students the very best as they represent the school. Good luck to all teams, and we look forward to celebrating more fantastic results throughout the remainder of the term.

Hand On Learning Program 

The first half of Term 3 has been another busy and productive one in Hands on Learning, with students continuing to build our HoL Precinct and develop their practical skills. We have been working on a range of projects, including outdoor workbenches, drawers for our kitchen space and pigeonholes for students to store their belongings. One of the most exciting additions has been our gorgeous new feature table, which will sit at the centre of the precinct and provide a place for students to come together, share a meal, reflect and connect. Another fantastic update has been the installation of a sink, making washing hands, dishes and paint brushes so much easier. A huge thank you to our maintenance team for helping make this possible!

Alongside these projects, students have continued to work together, take ownership of tasks and contribute to making the HoL Precinct a space that feels truly theirs. It has been wonderful to see the space continuing to come together and to watch students build confidence, practical skills and positive relationships along the way.

REPLAY REWIND

Our original production, REPLAY REWIND, has officially wrapped after three incredible performances, one special matinee for local primary school students and two evening performances for our wider school community.

The night began with our 40th Anniversary Expo, giving audiences the chance to take a trip down memory lane. With memorabilia, photos and stories from across the College’s history, there was plenty to discover and for many, plenty of memories to revisit!

Then it was time to head into the theatre…

REPLAY REWIND was a completely original story inspired by out 40th year. Set around six students at Cherry Woodwind College who found themself in trouble and needing to clean out the school base. When they stumble upon a box of old cassette, revealing stories from 1986. The story explored friendships, secrets and what happens when the past starts to resurface.

And what an achievement it was.

Creating an original play from scratch is no small feat. There was no premade script to simply pick up and perform, our students helped bring an entirely new story to life, taking on the challenges of acting, character development, rehearsals, set, props, costumes, sound, lighting and everything in between.

From the first idea to the final curtain, these students poured an incredible amount of time, creativity and energy into making REPLAY REWIND happen. There were laughs, long rehearsals, last-minute script changes, plenty of problem-solving and, of course, a few moments of “we’ll work that out tomorrow!”

Most importantly, they did it together.

A huge congratulations to every student who helped make this production possible. You should be incredibly proud of what you have achieved. Creating and performing an original piece of theatre is something pretty special and REPLAY REWIND will always be a part of our 40th Anniversary story.
