Principal’s Report

Read Time: ( words)

Dear Families,

As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a positive and productive start to the 2026 school year.

Our school values of Respect, Learning and Working Together have been evident throughout Term 1. Whether in classrooms, on the sporting field, or within our broader community, many students have demonstrated a strong commitment to these values, setting a great tone for the year ahead.

Congratulations to all students who have maintained high levels of attendance throughout the term. High performing students continue to minimise time away from class. A strong attendance is something that all students should be working to achieve.

Recently, we have enjoyed some wonderful successes in sport this term, with standout performances in both the Futsal and Rugby tournaments. These achievements are a credit to the effort, teamwork and sportsmanship of our students, as well as the support of our staff.

Academically, our students approached NAPLAN with a positive mindset, and we achieved an excellent 95.4% participation rate. This reflects the collective commitment of our students and families to learning and continuous improvement.

This term has also been significant in shaping the future direction of our school. We have finalised our School Review and are excited about the development of our new Strategic Plan, which will guide our work over the coming years. In addition, the work of our Marrung Steering Committee continues to strengthen our commitment to Indigenous education and inclusion. The creation of the new mural by a local Indigenous artist, has further enriched our school environment as we celebrate culture and identity.

I would like to warmly welcome both new and returning members to our School Council for 2026. Thank you to Mr Luke Delutiis- School Council President, Ms Kakoli Rawat, Ms Anthea Overlunde, Ms Toni Mc Bride, Ms Nicole Zderski, and Assistant Principal Ms. Andrea Bellgrove, all return for another term on the committee. Our new members include, Ms Sharon Thomas, Mr Sam Alyass, Mrs Seham Al-Shwayli.  We value your contribution and look forward to working together to support the ongoing success of our school.

Our recent Student Learning Conferences were very well attended, and this strong engagement enables students to reflect on their progress throughout Term 1 and set meaningful goals for the remainder of the semester. Thank you to all families for your partnership in this important process.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank our families for their patience and understanding during last week’s stop work action by the AEU. Wage negotiations between the AEU and the state government continue.

As mentioned, we are looking forward to further new developments in our facilities, with a covered bike shed and new student toilet block set to be accessible to students in Term 2. The design stage of our refurbished Walton House courtyard has commenced. This development will include new student locker spaces, outdoor teaching and learning spaces and civil works to assist to reduce the risk of flooding.  These improvements will enhance the day-to-day experience for our students.

To our dedicated leadership team, teaching and support staff, thank you for your continued hard work and commitment to supporting every student to be their best. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and are much appreciated. The team effort of our staff have enabled continued improvement of student learning outcomes at our college.

A reminder that Thursday 2nd April is the final day of Term 1, with students dismissed at 2:30pm. Friday 3rd April is Good Friday, public holiday.

I wish all students, staff and families a safe and restful holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 2, which will commence on Monday 20th April.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Kind regards

Wayne Haworth

House News

It has been a fantastic start to the year for Hollows House, and I am incredibly proud of the way our students have embraced Term 1. As a House, we have continued to achieve outstanding results across a number of areas, reflecting the collective effort and commitment of our students and staff.

A highlight of the term was our incredible success at the College Swimming Sports, where Hollows House took out the title for the third consecutive year, an outstanding achievement! Alongside this, we recorded the highest attendance average across all four houses, the second-highest number of values nominations, and the second-highest learning habits average. These consistent efforts have placed us in the top position for the House Cup at this stage of the year, and we are determined to maintain this momentum as we work towards bringing the title home at the end of the year.

While we celebrate these successes, we also recognise that there is always room for growth. It will take a collective effort from all members of Hollows House to continue showing up each day, giving our best, and demonstrating our College values of Respect, Learning, and Working Together in everything we do.

It has also been fantastic to see so many of our students actively involved in extracurricular opportunities. Many students have proudly represented the College in Rugby and Futsal tournaments, as well as Interschool Sport. We congratulate all Hollows House students who have contributed to these team successes throughout the term. With more sporting opportunities coming up next term and beyond, we look forward to continuing to support you as you shine both on and off the field and courts.

Our College Leadership students have been busy behind the scenes, working on a range of initiatives. This includes preparations for the upcoming Talent Show in Term 2, as well as representing the College at key events such as the ANZAC Day assembly, a recent leadership forum, and organising the Free Dress Day, which successfully raised funds for Foundation House. Their leadership and commitment to making a positive impact in our school community is commendable.

We also recently held our Student-Led Conferences, and it was fantastic to see so many students engaging in meaningful conversations with their teachers and families. These conferences are an important opportunity for students to reflect on their progress, celebrate their achievements, and identify areas for improvement. I encourage all students to take on board the feedback provided and set clear goals for their learning, ensuring they continue to strive for their personal best in all subject areas.

Thank you to all students, staff, and families for your ongoing support of Hollows House. We look forward to another successful term ahead.

International Women’s Day

We recently recognise International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the achievements of women, reflect on progress made, and acknowledge the ongoing work needed to create a truly equitable world.

The theme for this year reminds us of the need for urgent and sustained efforts to close the gender gap, advance women’s rights, and create a more inclusive society. At Hampton Park Secondary College, we are committed to fostering a culture of respect, learning, and working together—values that align with the spirit of this goal.

It is an opportunity for each of us to recognise the contributions of the women in our school community—our students, staff, families, and leaders—who inspire, lead, and create change every day. Currently at our college, we are fortunate to work with many highly dedicated and inspirational leaders.

Wellbeing Focus
Student wellbeing is always a priority. This term, we’re focusing on resilience and positive relationships. Teachers and wellbeing staff are providing activities to support students’ social and emotional development. If your child needs any additional support, please reach out.

Have a great break

House News

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

At Walton House, the end of term has provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on a busy and purposeful period of learning and connection. Named after pioneering Australian aviator Nancy Bird Walton, our House continues to be guided by her legacy of courage, perseverance, leadership, and service to the community. These qualities remain central to how Walton students approach their learning and their contribution to College life.

This term concluded with our Values Assembly, where students were recognised for consistently demonstrating Learning, Respect, and Working Together. These moments reinforce what it means to belong to Walton and highlight the quiet, everyday actions that build a strong and inclusive House culture. Student Led Conferences were another highlight, with students confidently sharing their progress and goals, reinforcing shared responsibility for learning between students, families, and staff.

House spirit has also been evident throughout our ongoing House Championship campaign. With the competition finely balanced, Walton currently sits in a very close third place. The commitment, teamwork, and persistence shown by students across academic, sporting, and cultural events reflects our determination to contribute strongly in every arena.

As we move into the next term, we look forward to continuing this momentum through upcoming learning opportunities, House events, and community occasions. Walton students consistently represent the College with pride, and we remain focused on growth, participation, and living the values inspired by Nancy Bird Walton every day.

Have you heard about our Instructional Model?

We are proud to introduce our college Instructional Model. Our Instructional Model has launched this term with great success, providing our students with a learning routine that is visible in every lesson.

This is a five-phase model grounded in evidence-based best practice. It draws on what research tells us about how students learn most effectively, and it has been thoughtfully developed by our teachers and students working together. That collaboration matters. It means this model reflects not only strong educational research, but also the lived experience of our classrooms.

Rugby Academy

The HPSC U16 Rugby League squad performed admirably in their inaugural season competing in the Storm Cup, the premier schools’ rugby league competition in Victoria. The team topped their pool after three exciting victories over Craigieburn HS, Fountain Gate SC, and Melton SC to progress to the semi-finals against the top-ranked school, The Grange.

After a very closely fought first half, The Grange proved to be too strong in the semi-final match-up, and our HPSC team’s brave run in the competition came to an end. Finishing in the top four in the Storm Cup is a fantastic achievement in our first year and provides an excellent platform to improve and excel in the future. All players should be extremely proud of their efforts throughout the competition.

During Week 9, Rugby students from Years 7–12 competed in the Synergise Touch Rugby Championships. The Year 7 Girls had a great day, progressing to the Plate Final. Unfortunately due to extreme weather and lightening the event had to be cancelled prior finals. All students and staff had a great 2 days at these events and we look forward to trying again at this event in 2027.

As we are now in the final week of term, the U18s team will compete in the NRL 9s Tag State Championships on Tuesday, 31 March. We hope to come away with the win and wish them the best of luck!

Soccer Academy

State Futsal Championships Update – The 16s girls team secured an impressive 4–1 victory in their final, with Zainab Jamshidi named best on ground after a standout performance in defence. The 15s girls also enjoyed success, winning their final 3–1 in another strong showing. In total, we fielded five girls teams, all of whom represented the school with great effort and determination.

Adding to the day’s achievements, Zuhal Rezai (Year 10), Wida Hussaini (Year 11), and Zehra Mosavi (Year 7) were each selected to represent Victoria City at the upcoming national championships—an outstanding accomplishment. A special thank you to Harry for capturing the moment as the letters were presented.

Remaining Futsal Championship events for Week 10 include the 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s, and 19s boys teams. We wish them the best of luck in their pursuit of becoming State Champions and qualifying for the National Championships later in the year.

In the Kew friendly matches, we fielded teams across both boys’ and girls’ divisions in the 14s, 15s, and 16s age groups. Highlights included a draw for the 14s boys and a strong 6–4 win for the 16s boys. The 15s boys faced a challenging match, going down by a few goals. On the girls’ side, the 15s team recorded a convincing win, while the 14s and 16s teams were unable to secure victories on this occasion.

Overall, we narrowly missed out in the inaugural Jessop Geason Cup, finishing with 2 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses. Despite the result, it was a valuable and enjoyable day of competition, with many positives to take forward.

Well done to all students involved for their commitment, sportsmanship, and team spirit.

Interschool Sport

Our ever-popular volleyball competition saw teams representing the school across all year levels. It has been fantastic to see such strong participation and enthusiasm from our students.

Our senior teams have performed exceptionally well, progressing through to the regional finals, which will be held on 30 April. This is a great achievement, and we wish them the very best of luck.

Our Year 7 teams are set to compete on Monday, 30 March. We hope they have a fantastic day of competition and wish them the best of luck for a successful outcome.

Sports Mentor Program 2026

Our 2026 Sports Mentor Program with River Gum Primary has commenced. The partnership between Hampton Park Secondary College (HPSC) and River Gum Primary School provides a valuable leadership opportunity for students through the interschool sport program at River Gum Reserve. Sixteen Year 9 HPSC students have volunteered to take on roles as peer mentors, supporting primary students by umpiring, marshalling, and assisting across a range of events. These include weekly interschool sport (home games), Hampton Park District Cross Country, Athletics Carnival, Lightning Premierships, and training sessions for upcoming competitions.
