Hampton Park Secondary College has a strong tradition of student leadership. All students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills, in line with goal two of the Melbourne Declaration, which requires educators to create an environment where learners can be ‘confident and creative individuals,’ who will further become ‘active and informed citizens.’ (Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians, 2008). All student leaders at Hampton Park Secondary College model our values of respect, learning, and working together.
Student Representative Council (SRC): Representatives across the four houses are appointed to represent the student population to discuss and resolve issues that are prominent in the school community. This includes College Captains, House Captains, Domain Leaders and General Representatives. The SRC also facilitates school-wide events like Free Dress Days and fundraising.
Peer Support
Peer Support Leaders will work with the House Captains, and a team of Year 7s to support their transition to secondary school, by building their connectedness to their House, Mentor Group, and school.
Learning Dispositions Leaders
Each year, all HPSC students participate in interactive sessions to learn about the real-world applications of the four learning dispositions: Critical and Creative Thinking, Collaboration, Resilience and Resourcefulness. Students volunteer to become learning dispositions leaders who practice and prepare to facilitate interactive sessions to the year level below them. This enables them to build their own leadership skills whilst teaching their peers about the learning dispositions in a practical and engaging way.
Beast Keeper Leaders
The Beast Keeper Leaders work with the animals and help out at lunchtimes, after school, and holiday breaks. They present to the wider school community on special nights at the school and perform demonstrations to other schools and are engaged with other outside school programs to support the care of the animals at HPSC.
