Hollows House – Term 3, Week 7
What a fantastic start to Term 3 it has been for Hollows House! There has been plenty happening across the school, and it has been fantastic to see so many of our students getting involved, representing Hollows with pride and giving their best.
Athletics Day
We once again showed House pride with a fantastic Athletics Day, where Hollows had a very strong representation. We had the highest attendance of any House, which was fantastic to see, and it was even better to see so many students getting involved, competing and winning ribbons.
Overall, Hollows finished second, helping us move closer to the ultimate prize at the end of the year, the House Cup! Every point counts, so we need everyone to continue giving their all this term. Let’s keep building the momentum and bring that trophy home!
Year 7 Swimming Week
Our Year 7 students recently completed their Swimming Week at Casey ARC. It was great to see students developing their confidence and skills in the water while representing Hollows throughout the week. A big thank you to our Year 7 students and staff for making the program such a success.
Eric Agyeman– The Power of Words
Our Year 7 students also participated in a full-day incursion with Eric Agyeman, featuring a keynote presentation followed by workshops throughout the day in House groups.
The sessions provided students with an opportunity to reflect on the impact that our words can have on others, particularly when we make comments without considering how they might be received. We hope the messages from the keynote and workshops really hit home for our Hollows students and that they continue to think carefully about the power of their words and the impact they can have on others.
Replay, Rewind
Hollows was also strongly represented in the recent school production, Replay, Rewind. Congratulations to all of our Hollows students involved in the production. Their commitment, talent and dedication to the performing arts was fantastic to see, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
Looking ahead, we have plenty more happening in the performing arts space. The 4C’s event is coming up, celebrating the multiculturalism and diversity that makes our school and wider community so special. We also have our School Band Tours at the end of the month, where our school bands will perform lunchtime concerts for our feeder primary schools.
ACER Testing & Student Growth
We started the term with ACER testing, helping us develop a stronger understanding of where our students are positioned across reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.
It has been fantastic to see so many Hollows students demonstrate growth across these areas. We want every student to continue giving their best – not only during testing, but in everything they do. Every effort contributes to learning and growth.
Domain Weeks
So far this term, we have celebrated a number of fantastic Domain Weeks, including Arts/STEM Week, Humanities Week, Languages Week and, most recently, Science Week.
These weeks provide great opportunities to immerse yourself in different areas of the curriculum and get involved in activities that have been specifically designed to promote curiosity, creativity and engagement. We encourage all Hollows students to take advantage of the many opportunities our school provides.
Course Counselling & Pathways
Course counselling has continued this term and will continue again this week. We have been really pleased with the thoughtful conversations students have been having about their subject choices and future pathways.
Choosing subjects is about finding the right balance between what you enjoy, what you are good at, maintaining a breadth of curriculum and considering where you might want your future to take you. Career pathways have also been discussed as part of these conversations.
Remember, everyone’s pathway is different and diverse. There is no single definition of success, and the choices you make should help you build a pathway that is right for you.
Learning Habits Reports
Finally, Learning Habits Reports will be released this week. We encourage all Hollows students to use these reports as an opportunity to reflect on their progress.
Celebrate the areas where you are doing well, but also identify the areas where you can improve. These reports can also be a useful starting point for conversations during course counselling and subject selection.
As well as this, Student led conferences are next week and these learning habits reports can be used as a reference point for conversations with your teachers and parents. Make sure you have made your bookings for the conferences next week!
There is plenty still to come this term, Hollows! Let’s continue to Respect, Learn and Work Together, give our best in everything we do, and keep building towards that House Cup!
