Term 2 Highlights – Mabo House

Term 2 has continued to be an exciting and successful period for Mabo House, with students embracing opportunities to celebrate culture, demonstrate leadership, pursue their learning goals, and build connections across our school community. From significant celebrations and academic milestones to sporting achievements and career-focused experiences, our students have continued to represent Mabo House with pride, enthusiasm, and commitment.

Celebrating Culture, Inclusion and Community

A major highlight of the term has been the celebration of culture, diversity, and inclusion across our school. Students and staff came together to recognise IDAHOBIT Day, promoting respect, acceptance, and the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

Our World Cultural Day and Multicultural Assembly were incredible celebrations of the diverse cultures that make up our school community. Students showcased their talents through amazing performances, sharing music, dance and traditions from around the world. The energy, creativity, and pride displayed by students made these events truly memorable.

The school also acknowledged National Reconciliation Week, providing an opportunity for students to reflect on the importance of respect, understanding, and strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community.

Celebrating Student Success at Mabo House Assemblies

Our Mabo House Assemblies have continued to be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate student achievements and recognise the positive contributions of our students. Throughout the term, we have celebrated attendance milestones, positive learning habits, and students demonstrating our School values.

These celebrations highlight the importance of effort, consistency, and personal growth, while recognising the many ways students contribute to the success and culture of Mabo House.

Learning, Pathways and Future Opportunities

Term 2 has been an important period for our senior students, with Year 10 – 12 students completing their mid year exams. These assessments provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their progress, and set goals for future improvement.

Our Road to Success Career Expo was another outstanding event, with more than 75 stalls providing students with valuable information about future pathways, careers, training, and further education opportunities. The event was a huge success and supported students in exploring the many possibilities available beyond school.

Year 9 students also participated in City Experience, developing independence, confidence, and real world skills as they explored learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Year 10 students took part in mock interviews, helping them build communication skills, confidence, and preparation for future employment and pathway opportunities.

Formal Celebrations and Special Events

Our Year 11 and 12 students celebrated a fantastic milestone with their Formal, enjoying an evening of celebration, connection, and recognition of their journey throughout senior school.

It was wonderful to see students come together, celebrate their achievements, and create memories with their peers and teachers.

Sporting Achievements and Participation

Sport has continued to be a highlight this term, with students demonstrating teamwork, resilience, and commitment across a range of opportunities.

A special congratulations goes to one of our Senior Rugby students who achieved a Guinness World Record at the MCG for the longest pass. This incredible achievement was a proud moment for our school community and showcased the dedication, skill, and determination of our students.

Students also had the opportunity to participate in Term 2 House and Interschool Sports, with teams representing our school in:

Badminton

Soccer

Boys AFL

Girls Netball

Thank you to all students who participated and represented our school with enthusiasm and excellent sportsmanship.

Looking Ahead

As we approach the end of the term, we are incredibly proud of the achievements, growth, and positive contributions of our Mabo House students. Thank you to all students, staff, and families for continuing to support a strong House culture built on respect, participation, achievement, and belonging.
