The HPSC U16 Rugby League squad performed admirably in their inaugural season competing in the Storm Cup, the premier schools’ rugby league competition in Victoria. The team topped their pool after three exciting victories over Craigieburn HS, Fountain Gate SC, and Melton SC to progress to the semi-finals against the top-ranked school, The Grange.

After a very closely fought first half, The Grange proved to be too strong in the semi-final match-up, and our HPSC team’s brave run in the competition came to an end. Finishing in the top four in the Storm Cup is a fantastic achievement in our first year and provides an excellent platform to improve and excel in the future. All players should be extremely proud of their efforts throughout the competition.

During Week 9, Rugby students from Years 7–12 competed in the Synergise Touch Rugby Championships. The Year 7 Girls had a great day, progressing to the Plate Final. Unfortunately due to extreme weather and lightening the event had to be cancelled prior finals. All students and staff had a great 2 days at these events and we look forward to trying again at this event in 2027.

As we are now in the final week of term, the U18s team will compete in the NRL 9s Tag State Championships on Tuesday, 31 March. We hope to come away with the win and wish them the best of luck!

State Futsal Championships Update – The 16s girls team secured an impressive 4–1 victory in their final, with Zainab Jamshidi named best on ground after a standout performance in defence. The 15s girls also enjoyed success, winning their final 3–1 in another strong showing. In total, we fielded five girls teams, all of whom represented the school with great effort and determination.

Adding to the day’s achievements, Zuhal Rezai (Year 10), Wida Hussaini (Year 11), and Zehra Mosavi (Year 7) were each selected to represent Victoria City at the upcoming national championships—an outstanding accomplishment. A special thank you to Harry for capturing the moment as the letters were presented.

Remaining Futsal Championship events for Week 10 include the 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s, and 19s boys teams. We wish them the best of luck in their pursuit of becoming State Champions and qualifying for the National Championships later in the year.

In the Kew friendly matches, we fielded teams across both boys’ and girls’ divisions in the 14s, 15s, and 16s age groups. Highlights included a draw for the 14s boys and a strong 6–4 win for the 16s boys. The 15s boys faced a challenging match, going down by a few goals. On the girls’ side, the 15s team recorded a convincing win, while the 14s and 16s teams were unable to secure victories on this occasion.

Overall, we narrowly missed out in the inaugural Jessop Geason Cup, finishing with 2 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses. Despite the result, it was a valuable and enjoyable day of competition, with many positives to take forward.

Well done to all students involved for their commitment, sportsmanship, and team spirit.

Interschool Sport

Our ever-popular volleyball competition saw teams representing the school across all year levels. It has been fantastic to see such strong participation and enthusiasm from our students.

Our senior teams have performed exceptionally well, progressing through to the regional finals, which will be held on 30 April. This is a great achievement, and we wish them the very best of luck.

Our Year 7 teams are set to compete on Monday, 30 March. We hope they have a fantastic day of competition and wish them the best of luck for a successful outcome.

Sports Mentor Program 2026

Our 2026 Sports Mentor Program with River Gum Primary has commenced. The partnership between Hampton Park Secondary College (HPSC) and River Gum Primary School provides a valuable leadership opportunity for students through the interschool sport program at River Gum Reserve. Sixteen Year 9 HPSC students have volunteered to take on roles as peer mentors, supporting primary students by umpiring, marshalling, and assisting across a range of events. These include weekly interschool sport (home games), Hampton Park District Cross Country, Athletics Carnival, Lightning Premierships, and training sessions for upcoming competitions.
